Coat of arms

The coat of arms was created by a member of the founding group, Mr. Francisco López de Mesa. It is formed by an exterior ring colored ocean-green as a symbol of hope and prosperity for the University of Medellín |

On the inside excels: on the upper side, the name of the Alma Mater and on the lower side, the maxim of science on freedom’s path. These inscriptions are in golden color. |
|

Additionally, it is divided into four parts from which two Colombian flags, in its yellow, blue and red colors, hoist as symbol of a deep love for our nation. |
|

Upper-left side: silvery contour line. To its interior the ‘La Candelaria Village’ logo represents the name of the University in its distinctive colors. |

Upper-right side: inside a golden contour line there is a balance, representing equity and the School of Law, the first academic cell of undergraduate programs in the Alma Mater. |

Lower-left side: on the inside of the silvery contour line is an open book on which, on its left page, there is an also silver ‘PI’ letter as symbol of the sciences and to remind that the high school and the school of law will not be the only academic divisions of the Alma Mater. On the contrary, the inter-disciplinary nature of the programs of study was envisioned from the foundation

Lower-right side: inside the golden contour line there is, on a black background, the Greek torch held by a young hand to symbolize a free cathedra without political, racial or any other distinctions. The flame is red and yellow and the hand holding it is flesh-colored. |
