Academic Writing is a course that belongs to the common education at Medellin University. The main objective is to study the oral and written code in order to develop and reinforce reading and writing strategies that permit students to participate in the construction of knowledge in Higher Education. Another important objective is to develop certain mechanisms and strategies that facilitate the understanding and production of texts, as well as an analytical and critical attitude in agreement with students' specific knowledge and the principle of integral education.
The course covers the study of metacognitive instruments applied to reading comprehension, essential properties of the written code and the monitoring of different phases that integrate the writing process.
